Abstract

In the book "The White Noise" by Don Delillo, the purpose of this study is to investigate the impact that postmodernism and technology have had on the social lives of the characters. Through the use of contemporary technology, which is portrayed in three different ways, Don Delillo depicts the chaotic existence that he lives in this story. One method is via the medium of television, which serves as both a source of knowledge and entertainment. The second method is through the toxic event, and the third method is through Dylar's episode and the destructive consequences that it brought about. That is what he portrays via the environment of Jack's family, as well as the repercussions that it has on the lives and ideas of the older people and society as a whole. He demonstrates that technology is not bringing mankind to a place of safety but rather to a way of death. He emphasizes this point even further by illustrating how the influence of technology can be seen in the lives of the major characters in his book, The White Noise.
